Food Pantry Report April 17, 2019

There are several big news stories at the pantry this past month.

Perhaps the most significant is the addition to our line of products offered.  Connecting with Garden of Health in Souderton as a donor organization we now have several items that are either gluten-free or sugar-free or salt-free.  We are keeping these separate from our regular shopping area to make sure that we have enough for those who do have these dietary restrictions.

Attendance Increasing

So far 2019 is making news by reversing the declining attendance trends we have seen in 2017 and 2018.  All three months of this year have seen attendance increases.  March was the most dramatic with 282 families served this year versus 228 families served last year.  Numbers of new clients signing up have remained steady or increased slightly this year versus last year.

Our Shopping Sets New Record

Having additional clients means needing to spend additional monies.  We set a new record high on our last shopping trip. $1426.20 shattered our previous spending high by $100.  This was to cover us for a two-week period but before the end of the second week, we needed to purchase four items that had been exhausted.  We are blessed by your continued support to have the funds to make these purchases.

Fresh Produce Distribution Coming Soon!

The Love In Action UCC church on the south end of Hatboro has started a monthly fresh produce distribution.  At noon on the second Sunday of each month, they distribute product from their building next to the Old Mill restaurant.  This has proved to be of great help to many of our clients.

Tuesday Morning Produce Team Help Needed

As spring moves forward, we all look to the warm days of summer.  We will again be participating on Tuesday mornings in the distribution of fresh produce items.  Distribution takes place in Bensalem at 11:30 AM.  Last year it worked very well to have two teams – a driver and a helper that alternated weeks.  If you are interested in helping as either a driver or a helper, please contact Alan at 215-675-1298.

Our Needs

We are still in need of personal care items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, as well as shampoo.  In the food category, we need boxed spaghetti.  Thank you for your prayers and as well as your financial support that makes this community ministry.
