The month of June started with a meeting of the H.A.T.Packs Leadership Team, The Pantry at St. John’s Leadership Team, Pastor Reimer of St. John’s and the then leadership personnel from daily pantry operation.  The purpose of the meeting was to review the history of the pantry and its use during the pandemic as well as to make preparations for changes in staffing due to vacations during the summer season.

Currently there are numerous ways to serve the pantry.  Monday nights are given to organizing donations and inventory and preparing for the upcoming week (5:30 PM-7:30 PM).  Tuesday afternoons there is an opportunity to again organize donations received each Tuesday from Montgomery Anti-Hunger Network(1 PM-2:30 PM).  Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday there is the opportunity for setting up and serving clients(10 AM-1 PM).

We are looking for drivers for two activities.

  1. We need a driver on Tuesdays at 11:30 AM to go to Bensalem and pick up produce.
  2. We also need a driver on Sundays at 10 AM to go to the Willow Grove Giant and pick up bread and pastry.

Both of these opportunities involve lifting and a larger sized vehicle.  Occasionally there is also a need to find a substitute driver to pick up items.

If you could serve in any of these capacities please reach out and contact socialmedia@sjlch.org indicating which day(s) you will be available.

It takes many hands to make the operation run smoothly.

Every day in June that the pantry was in operation saw multiple donations being dropped off during operating hours.  June also witnessed the steady use of the pantry by 423 families down just 1 family from May 2020 but well ahead of the 228 families that used the pantry in June 2019.

The New Normal

Given the expansion and the likelihood that this is the new “normal” for the time being, there is a need for people who are able to volunteer.  If your garden is producing excess items we encourage you to make your donation on early on operation days around 10:15 or 10:30 AM.

As always we are very grateful for your prayers and support of this vital ministry.
