Food Pantry at St. John’s

The Food Pantry is enjoying a blessed holiday season.  We were able to offer 118 of our families a Thanksgiving dinner meal basket.  Twenty-four of these had the turkey included and the others received grocery store gift cards.  Major contributors to this effort were Endo Pharmaceutical of Horsham, Dr. Marc Shrager, chiropractor from Warminster, and Redeemer Lutheran of Jamison.   A lottery system among active client families was used to determine recipients.  The entire traditional Thanksgiving collection at St. John’s Lutheran was given to sister congregation, Grace Lutheran.

While the total number of families served in November decreased as has happened in most of the calendar year, we did experience our single largest day ever.  Record keeping goes back to 2011.  The Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving saw forty-one families come to the pantry.  Given that our records show the average family size is three, a very large number of people were served during the month.

Church of the Advent continued their Christmas basket collection and increased their number to thirty-five baskets this year.  Again a lottery system was used to determine recipients and baskets were distributed on Monday December 11.  These baskets include everything from “soup to nuts” including the roasting pan as well as a gift card.

We are in dire need of volunteers to serve as drivers.  Wilson center pick-ups are one day a week for a period of a month followed by at least one month’s respite before being assigned again.  This task usually takes about an hour of time.

Also, when fresh produce distribution resumes this spring we will need a driver to pick up product at United Church of Christ, Bensalem.  This is every Tuesday at 11:30AM and takes up about an hour and half.

Please contact the Church Office at 215-675-2031.

Thank you all for your continued generous support of this mission to our community.
