Summer’s end is fast approaching and the Christian Education Committee is busy preparing for the upcoming Sunday school year. Sunday school supplies have been ordered, Rally Day preparations are made, and plans are in place for a great year of Sunday school!
This year, the preschool through 3rd grade students will continue using the Holy Moly curriculum; while the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will continue with Connect. These are great curricula that will teach stories from the Old and New Testaments, along with the Christmas and Easter stories. All classes will also learn about Holy Communion during the Lenten Season. These stories will give you something exciting to talk to your child about each week, and you will get to hear their views. There is always room for new adult faces in Sunday school.
The nursery is open during the 9 am church services for children who are not quite old enough for Sunday school. All children, ages 6 weeks to 3 years, are welcome. The door opens at 8:45 each Sunday. The nursery is also in need of volunteers to play with the children. The children will hear age appropriate bible stories and learn songs each week.
Is scheduled for Sunday, August 26. This is the first Sunday that St. John’s will be going back to two services, and 9 am and 11 am. Sunday school is during the 9 am service. The children will be making breakfast bags to give to children at our food pantry. If you would like to donate to this cause, please bring your items to church by Friday, August 24. The breakfast bags will consist of: nut-free breakfast bars, juice boxes, individual packs of cereal, sandwich crackers, instant oatmeal, fruit cups, applesauce cups, pop tarts, and mini water bottles.
Save the Dates:
- Friday Aug 24: Bring food donations (see items above)
- Sunday Aug 26: Rally Day – Making Breakfast Bags
There is also an opportunity for younger children to be involved in the church services each week. You have seen the junior and senior high children acting as acolytes each week. We are also giving 4th, 5th, and 6th graders the opportunity to acolyte. If you are interested, please contact me. Dates for training sessions will be available soon.
Sunday School Registration
Each year, we ask that all children register for Sunday school. This updates our information with any changes that have occurred in the last year. A form is enclosed with this letter. They can also be found outside the church office. Please return your form to the Sunday school office at your earliest convenience. Please use one form per child.
Please contact me at email@example.com with any questions or if you would like information in becoming a Sunday School volunteer. I look forward to seeing everyone on Rally Day and throughout the Sunday school year!
